"SMASHED" -  Great DVD pick for drug and alcohol awareness

SMASHED, produced for HBO Family by the husband and wife team of Kirk Simon and Karen Goodman, is a hard-hitting documentary that pulls no punches. Filmed at University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma Unit, it follows the fate of 6 young people suffering serious head injuries as a result of alcohol related injuries. Told through the voices of the medical personnel, the patients' families and the survivors themselves -- all trying to live with the aftermath of similar injuries -- this film focuses on consequences by depicting the permanently changed lives and on-going struggles of those who do not die.
